RC Sproul has Entered Eternal Rest

Our beloved RC Sproul has passed from this world into the next, and has indeed met the holy God that he proclaimed to millions through the Word preached while he was on earth. What tribute could I give to this giant of the faith when so many have already spoken on his behalf?

I think that RC Sproul has been the most influential Christian in the Reformed faith since the Westminster assembly first drafted the Westminster Standards. If he were still here on this earth, he would undoubtedly immediately suggest that surely such great men such as Jonathan Edwards, Charles Hodge,  or J Gresham Machen would have to be placed before him. I could not begin to attempt to weigh such men against each other. What I do know is this: RC Sproul has definitely been the most influential contemporary theologian in my family’s understanding of what reformed teaching is, and even probably the most influential reformed theologian for myself in all of history. He was genuine, honest, and knowledgeable in doctrine and how to apply it, and he used the resources God had given to him well, not burying his talent in the ground, but producing many more talents to give back into the hands of his heavenly Father. May God raise up another man like RC Sproul to continue preaching in full strength and with similar zeal the truth and essence of reformed theology. I’m glad that Ligonier ministries is prepared to continue without their dear and faithful leader, and I also realize the difficult standard by which they must measure up to in his absence. God bless the Sproul family.

I could not end this note without also giving gratitude for RC’s optimistic eschatological teachings, as I am a Postmillennialist, and my father taught me much of what I know about the Olivet Discourse from RC Sproul’s sermons on it.

Let us pray that the reformed church is not hindered, thwarted, or caused to suffer in RC Sproul’s passing! The Word of the Lord endures forever.

R.C. Sproul on Man’s Sin and God’s Grace

I came across the below video today and realized that I think I had watched that entire panel on the Ligonier Ministries YouTube channel. Contrary to how this video is labeled, I think Rev. Dr. Sproul answered the question very well and accurately. To think that God has been severely harsh with mankind is not only ignorant but arrogant. He has dealt with us with exceeding grace, and our response should be one of thankfulness.

“This creature from the dirt defied the everlasting, holy God.” ~R.C. Sproul. The fact that God in His mere good pleasure decreed a plan of salvation is gracious beyond what humankind can fathom. Even the angels marvel at this plan of redemption.

The Canons of Dort: Election

Recently, my brother, father, and I went to the Reformation Conference that was held in Grand Rapids this year. One of the pamphlets that I picked up for free was the Canons of Dort, a wonderful collection of doctrines that was compiled in the Synod of Dort. Under their The First Main Point of Doctrine: Divine Election and Reprobation, they give several articles outlining God’s election of the redeemed race. It is hard to single out any one article as they all build upon each other, but I thought I would focus this post around article 9.

Article 9: Election Not Based on Foreseen Faith
.     This election was not founded upon foreseen faith and the obedience of faith, holiness, or any other good quality or disposition in man, as the prerequisite, cause, or condition on which it depended; but men are chosen to faith and to the obedience of faith, holiness, etc. Therefore election is the fountain of every saving good, from which proceed faith, holiness, and the other gifts of salvation, and finally eternal life itself, as its fruits and effects, according to the testimony of the apostle: he hath chosen us (not because we were, but) that we should be holy and without blame before him in love (Eph 1:4).

In other words, our faith was not our own, but it was given to us. God did not look through the annuls of time and decide to chose those who would come to Him. He decided, rather, who would have faith, and later puts that faith in our hearts.

What I Believe in a Nutshell: Christian, Reformed, Post Millennial, Conservative

Hello everyone,

So I thought I would put a short video together detailing the sum of my worldview in a nutshell. This occurred to me because, as those who are following me know, I’ve been doing a series of videos reading select chapters of my two books, The Williams House and Treasure on the Southern Moor. (You can find out more information about them in my bookstore!) As I’ve been uploading videos of me reading my books, I recently obtained my first YouTube subscriber. Then afterward, I made a video detailing what both books are generally about, and in that video I mentioned the two phrases “Christian Virtues” and “Family Values”. After I published that video, I lost my one subscriber.

Whether or not the above was a coincidence, I do not know. Yet, I thought it would be best if I state my principles and beliefs in this video so there will be no misunderstandings. I hope you enjoy! God bless you.
